San Fernando Trash fire spreads to church and threatens apartments

PACOIMA, Calif. — An outdoor trash fire in Pacoima spread Sunday to a church building and threatened an apartment building, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The San Fernando Fire was reported shortly after noon Sunday in the 10200 block of North San Fernando Road.

As of 12:30 p.m., there were 71 LAFD firefighters assigned to the active structure fire which was classified as a “higher alarm incident”, according to LAFD’s Brian Humphrey.

“Flames from the large trash fire outside have spread to the rear/attic of the nearby (unoccupied) one-story church and continue to threaten a nearby two-story apartment building, now evacuated,” Humphrey reported.

“No injuries were reported as the shooting continues.”
