Friday, March 25, 20220
Today, LEGOLAND® California Resort officially opened its newest addition of a world-record LEGO® model of SoFi Stadium! Modeled after the NFL’s first indoor-outdoor stadium and home of the Super Bowl LVI champion Los Angeles Rams, the new model is the first addition to Miniland USA in over two years. To commemorate this historic event, special guests Aaron Donald, defensive tackle for the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams, and the Los Angeles Rams Cheerleaders joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
An architectural marvel
“SoFi Stadium is an architectural marvel, and we couldn’t be prouder to build and showcase such a massive masterpiece in LEGO form at the Resort’s Miniland USA,” said LEGOLAND California Resort President Kurt Stocks. . “Today’s celebration with the Los Angeles Rams, including famed Aaron Donald, was the perfect way to pay tribute to his team’s championship, while honoring our incredible model builders.”
During the opening ceremony, the park presented the eight-time Pro Bowler with a special LEGO mosaic model of Donald’s famous jersey number 99. The superstar and cheerleaders also received Minilander versions of themselves that they could place on the LEGO soccer field for guests to enjoy. Donald was joined by his family; his wife Erica, his daughter Jaeda (8 years old), his son Aaron Jr. (5 years old) and his son Aaric (6 months old), who assisted him with the honor of cutting the ribbon.
Donald and his family spent the night at the LEGOLAND® Hotel and commented during the ceremony how much his children loved the bunk beds and the theme of their bedroom, but when they saw the LEGO stadium model Sofi, the champion of the Super Bowl was more than impressed: “It’s amazing that they can create something like this out of LEGO,” said Donald.
The biggest LEGO stadium in the world!
Measuring over 30 feet long, 15 feet wide and over 4 feet high, the new SoFi Stadium is the largest LEGO stadium in the world. It took a team of 25 dedicated master model builders over 6,000 hours and over 500,000 LEGO® bricks to build the massive LEGO model. The most notable feature of the structure is the canopy, which includes over 3,500 books of LEGO. Due to its impressive size, the new Miniland model arrived at LEGOLAND California Resort in over 60 pieces and was assembled on site. More than a dozen LEGOLAND Model Shop team members completed the final installation of the model, which took more than four days to assemble.
