Bounty hunter killed in California hotel, with known suspect on the run

A bounty hunter was shot and killed at a Moreno Valley hotel on Tuesday night while attempting to apprehend a suspect who was still at large and was described as “armed and dangerous” on Wednesday (December 4th), the police said. Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies.

The man killed has been identified as James Black, 42, of Lake Elsinore. He was shot dead at the Xola Hotel at 24630 Sunnymead Blvd.

MPs are looking for suspect Chad James Green, 41, of Riverside, a man with a long criminal record in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

The shooting was reported at 7:13 p.m. Tuesday. After Green shot Black, authorities said, the victim was taken to hospital, where he died.

A Linkedin post for Black, a licensed private investigator, says he operates Black Umbrella Group in Lake Elsinore, which specializes in “apprehending domestic and international indentured fugitives.”

“Green should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. “If anyone meets Green, please call 911.”

A burglary complaint filed against Green in January in Riverside County Superior Court includes a long list of aliases and details convictions in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

The complaint lists 13 convictions, from 1998 to 2017, including being a criminal in possession of a firearm, evading a police officer, car theft and receiving stolen goods.

A statement supporting Green’s arrest related to the break-in, in which investigators alleged he broke into a Rancho Mirage home while the owner was inside taking a shower.

The statement, filed in court, says Green was identified as the suspect during a vehicle stop and had a surgical mask in a pocket such as the one seen on the burglar in a home security video. Green admitted to an investigator he was inside the house, authorities said, but said he was there to see an old friend, which the investigator said was not true .

Green was arrested on January 31, three days after the heist, and posted bail on February 2.

But court records show Green lost a previous bond and an arrest warrant issued in April for violating his four-year probation sentence in a burglary conviction in 2017.

A message left Wednesday morning at the indicated number of Black Umbrella was not returned.
