TRUCKEE, Calif. — The body of Rory Angelotta, who disappeared while skiing on Christmas Day, was found several miles from the Northstar California Resort on Saturday.

Angelotta, 43, was reported missing after failing to show up for a dinner with friends on Dec. 25, and authorities believe he got lost in whiteout conditions, the Reno Gazette Journal reported. .
Volunteers from Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue and Nevada County Search and Rescue found Angelotta’s remains, the newspaper reported.
The main search effort was suspended Dec. 30, but crews expanded the search area on Saturday and called in a rescue dog, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in a prepared statement.
“Angelotta had traveled a considerable distance between the limits of the ski resort and the back of the resort. It’s possible Angelotta was trying to find the neighborhood near Truckee when he succumbed to the elements,” the sheriff’s office said.
According to USA Today, Angelotta moved from Colorado to California in 2021 and ran a Surefoot ski shop.
“The Angelotta family is deeply touched by the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and support during this extremely difficult time and would like to personally thank everyone who has accompanied them in the search and assisted them over these past two weeks,” said the family in a prepared statement.
